Michael Smiy is a Director and Creative Director, leading the development of conceptual A/V promos and full 360 strategy campaigns, including work for Amazon (The Boys, Homecoming), Netflix (Living With Yourself), HBO (Sharp Objects, Curb Your Enthusiasm), FX (Fargo, Mayans, What We Do In The Shadows), TNT (Snowpiercer, Animal Kingdom), along with ABC, NatGeo, Spectrum and TLC.

Smiy has directed concept spots for Amazon’s The Boys, AMC’s The Walking Dead and NOS4A2, Marvel’s Funko toys partnership for Captain Marvel, HBO NOW “The Wire” (Promax 2015 winner) and Fahrenheit 451 (Promax 2019 winner), TNT’s Animal Kingdom (Promax 2017 winner), Snowpiercer and Tales from the Crypt (Promax 2017 winner), CNN’s docu-series Soundtracks (Clio 2017 winner), A&E’s LIVE P.D., Discovery ID’s Shattered, NatGeo Wild branding, Food Network’s Chopped and Holiday Baking Championship, and Delta’s 2018 safety video.

He’s also directed additional content for Netflix’s Jessica Jones, HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher, TLC’s Too Close to Home and Food Network’s Worst Cooks and Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.

He has worked with talent such as Brian Cox, Sean Bean, John Stamos, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Elisabeth Shue, Zachary Quinto, Daveed Diggs, Michael Moore, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Danai Gurira, Mike Colter, Ernie Johnson, Kevin Garnett, Guy Fieri, Ted Allen, Dan Abrams and Run-D.M.C.

Smiy is also an accomplished photographer, shooting the key art for the Cinemark XD “Movieologist” rebrand, USA’s “Falling Water”, NatGeo Wild’s “Exotic Animal ER” and “Yukon Vet”, Morgan Spurlock’s “RATS” on Discovery, Crackle’s “The Oath” and CNN’s “Soundtracks.”

He is a graduate of the Peter Stark Producing MFA Program at USC and frequently collaborates with talented alumni from the program on a variety of passion projects including short films “Mechanical Expression” and “Variance”, as well as his photo series inspired by “The Twilight Zone.”

He lives in Los Angeles, CA.
